The Indian cricket team will be undergoing the Yo-Yo endurance test this weekend, prior to the historic 5-day match against Afghanistan.

Further, the players selected for the limited-over series against Ireland and England will also need to pass the fitness test on June 15.

As per reports, Shastri has made this test mandatory and players failing this test would be dropped from the squad.

Three cones A, B and C are put in place prior to the test.

Cones A and B are five metres apart. The distance between B and C is 20 metres.

The player has to run at a full pace between cones B and C and then from C to B.

The timing between these laps is used to determine the fitness of the participant.

Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina had failed their Yo-Yo tests and were dropped from the Indian ODI side last year.

Even Washington Sundar had failed the test.

With fitness crucial in today’s cricket, the Yo-Yo test offers a vital solution to determine what the players can offer on field.

The test is held at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
