Following the decision to the Jalabhishek with RO water on the Shivling of Ujjain Mahakal Temple by the temple administration, the Supreme Court on Friday upheld the decision and allowed offering pure water to the Shivling.
Why the decision important?
In the Geological Survey of India (GSI) and Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) found that the Kunda, used in the world famous Bhasm Aarti, is causing erosion of the Shivalinga and due to the water containing bacteria offered on it.
The norms to perform Shivling puja which includes a restricted amount of RO water (only) which will be not more than 500 millilitres and the Shivling will be fully covered with dry cotton cloth. While during ‘Bhisma Aarti’, there will be a certain quantity of milk or ‘Panchamrut’. However, it will take one year to fully implement the new norms.
