Shahid Abbasi elected as interim PM of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Today Pakistan’s National Assembly announced Shahid  Abbasi as the interim Prime Minister. It is worth mentioning that last week, the Supreme Court disqualified Nawa Sharif over the charges of Panama Papers scandal.

In the 342-member house, Abbasi got 221 votes while Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate Naveed Qamar got 47 votes, 33 votes in favor of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf candidate Sheikh Rashid Ahmed and 4 votes to Sahibzada Tariqullah, Jamaat-e-Islami.

After the disqualification, Nawaz Sharif party, the Pakistan Mulim League-Nawaz had nominated Abbasi as an interim Prime Minister. He will be Prime Minister of Pakistan until Shehbaz is elected as National Assembly member. After that, Shrif’s brother will the PM of Pakistan.
