Police crime branch has arrested terrorist Farooq Sheikh, accused of terror attack on Akshardham temple in 2002. Farooq has been absconding for the last 16 years.

On September 24, 2002, two terrorists, linked with Pakistan’s Lashkar-e-Taiba, attacked Akshardham temple in Gandhinagar and killed 32 people and wounded more than 80 people. The commanders of the National Security Guard had killed these attackers.

The Supreme Court, however, acquitted all the six arrested persons earlier in May, 2014, in which three were given death sentence before that.
