Indian farmers can benefit from the trade war between United States and China. This benefit may be to farmers who produce soybean and white mustard. In fact, 7 years ago China had banned the purchase of Indian white mustard by referring to poor quality. It is the source of proteins for mustard animals. The Indian Embassy in China has demanded that the ban will be removed.
Not only this, India is considering increasing China’s soybean import to take advantage of the trade war. China has so far been taking soybean from the US, in which there has been a cut after the trade war. At present, the production of white mustard and soybean is decreasing in India, but if China removes the ban, it will prove to be a good opportunity for the farmers.
It is worth to mention here that in 2015-16, white mustard production in India was 6,820 kg. It is widely produced in Rajasthan, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. While talking about the production of soybean, it was 13 million tonnes in 2016-17. Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan are its major producers. However, due to lack of rainfall and poor crop failure, its production was declined.
